Know Yourself

Knowing yourself is one of the most challenging and important tasks of your life.  If you know what you believe in, what you value, and how you define yourself, you will be in a better position to understand what you want.  You will also be empowered to achieve your goals both in business and in life.

Sun Tzu, in The Art of War, said, “Know the enemy and know yourself; in a hundred battles you will never be in peril.”  Knowing yourself helps you make good decisions, carry out actions effectively, and motivate your followers.  Knowing yourself is also the path to knowing others, appreciating their strengths, and accepting their shortcomings.  You get to know yourself by reflecting on your beliefs, values, and experiences.  You come to understand how others perceive you by asking for their feedback.

This month, we will look at some common characteristics of how effective leaders and managers get to know themselves and how they return those lessons to others.
